JazzWorks Presents: The Wojtek Justyna TreeOh! with Miguel des Armas

Picture
Note new venue for this concert: Kato Restaurant, 1170 chemin Alymer, Gatineau QC
About Wojtek Justyna TreeOh!Composed of an international group of musicians hailing from Portugal, Germany, Poland and The Netherlands, The Netherlands-based Wojtek Justyna TreeOh! fuses the energy of funk-jazz and the colours & rhythms of world music with fresh sonic explorations. Combining soaring fuzzy leads with the rootsy sounds of traditional African instruments and throbbing synth bass lines, the TreeOh! is brings this scintillating performance to Ottawa on July 15. For their third album “THRICE” (2022), the musicians have blended their creative compositional talents to write a set of music that is packed with head-bopping grooves, intriguing harmonies and vigorous melodies that are bound to captivate the listener.

Countless worldwide performances in clubs and renowned jazz festivals such as Jazz in Daegu (South Korea), Delft Jazz Festival, State-X New Forms, Bevrijdingsfestival (The Netherlands), Jazzmeile Thüringen, jazzahead! (Germany) and Letni Festiwal Jazzowy (Poland) have earned the TreeOh! a reputation of an electrifying live act full of dynamics, colorful textures and fiery interplay between the band members.

About Miguel de Armas
Joining the TreeOh! in concert is Cuban-born, Ottawa-based pianist Miguel de Armas. Miguel de Armas is a versatile jazz pianist and composer. He weaves strands of Cuban and American jazz influences in a compellingly eclectic way. Born in Havana, Cuba, Miguel studied at the Conservatory Amadeo Roldan and graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte with a Bachelor in Cuban Percussion. Now Miguel has brought his musical talents to the city Ottawa, Canada which he considers his adopted home. His hope is to introduce Canadians to the works of an original Cuban talent whose performances are nothing short of a master class in original Cuban jazz rhythms.

This event is in part sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ottawa and Steve's Music Ottawa.

June 2023 Jam Cancelled -- See You In September

As you probably know by now, the Jazzworks Jam's regular home at Festival Japan has been under renovation all winter. Samantha has been kind enough to give us a room at Kato Japan, her Aylmer location. We just found out that venue is also not available this June, so we're going to postpone things until September, when hopefully we'll be back at Festival Japan.

Keep your fingers crossed and we'll see you at Festival Japan September 21!
