I have sorely missed our JazzWorks Vocal Open Mic, but it was a delight to see some of your faces on Zoom last December. Thanks to Peggy Cameron, Judy Humenick, and colleagues for organizing Open Mic. I can’t wait for the next one. I wrote this little song in honour of our first virtual Open Mic. Can be sung to any 12 bar blues backing track to keep the blues away (or try to).
COVID Winter Blues
Looked out my window
Ice lay on the ground
Looked out my window
Ice lay on the ground
Wanna put my head back on the pillow
Wait till spring comes around
Whiskey, scotch and sweet rum
Will keep me warm
Whiskey, scotch and sweet rum
Will keep me warm
But I think I’m a-getting’ glum
Just a-waitin’ for the storm
Stuck in at home
This bitter COVID year
Stuck in at home
This bitter COVID year
Feelin’ so monochrome
I almost shed a tear
I miss my friends at open mic
JazzWorks worked for me
Now I see my friends at open mic
JazzWorks works for me
So, baby, what’s not to like?
It’s where I wanna be, oh yeah
