COVID Testimonial from Leslie Toope
I think this Ottawa Jazz Happenings series of articles on COVID projects is really great. It’s really good to hear how others are figuring out ways to keep music going in their lives. I signed up for the Merrickville jazz festival (aka Merrickville's Jazz Fest - MJF) specifically because of Karen’s article. I have never attended in previous years.
The articles in the Ottawa Jazz Happenings COVID series are a regular reminder to think about how I can make music work for me in the time of COVID. They're helping me to think about this as a project rather than just practising by myself without a goal, or taking more courses. I’m formulating a plan to get back to a project that I've been making slow progress on over the past two years. It’s still motivating for me - a third of the work is done, and it gives me lots of scope to make a little progress on some long-term learning goals within a modest project context, like working on new repertoire, vocal improvisation, learning to make lead sheets with software, and learning how to use recording and collaboration software. Time is tight in 'elder care land in the time of COVID', but these articles keep reminding me to try to make some time for music.
Thanks for helping to keep us in the JazzWorks community feeling connected.
