Just in case you need reminding, Thursday, June 19, is the last JazzWorks jam session before the summer. Come on out and get yourself in the mood for August’s jazz camp.
The host band will be Wave & Friends, a group which has been together for several years and which has a nice Latin groove. It features Jerry Sociedade on vocal, Ginny Simonds on piano and Chris Thompson on electric bass, with guests David Glover on alto sax and Lu Frattaroli on drums.
The JazzWorks jam sessions are held at the Carleton Tavern, corner of Parkdale and Armstrong, beside the Parkdale Market. The host band plays an opening 45-minute set beginning at 8 p.m. This is followed by an open jam session in which everyone is welcome to participate. There is a co-ordinator with a sign-up sheet to make sure everyone gets to play.
Hope to see you there.

Tune Up won't be a calendar of events — Ottawa Jazz Happenings takes care of that. But it will discuss events and issues of interest to the JazzWorks community. Journalist, author, trumpet player and a jazz camper since 1999, Charley Gordon is a former vice-president of JazzWorks.
