After much effort and not without a little hand wringing, JazzWorks has had to cancel the second and third sessions of the Vocal Series with Sharada Banman due to lack of enrollment. We are pleased, though, to keep the first session on, and those participants will get a very good opportunity to meet Sharada, and learn from her wealth of knowledge on vocal technique and jazz. It is hoped that those who are new to JazzWorks, and who have never been to camp, will register and be able not only to use the skills Sharada will impart in the workshop, but follow up with masterclasses from our 2 other great coaches at camp this year, Christine Duncan and Alex Samaras.
I want to send out a huge thank you to Anna Frlan, our administrator who keeps us on track, Ira our treasurer who keeps our financial stewardship on the up and up, John Geggie (Artistic Director) who recommended and set up this program with Sharada. Kudos to Betty Ann Bryanton, who drives the Ottawa Jazz Happenings Newsletter - her messaging was responsible for quite a number of the registrants. And, of course, the rest of the JW Board team who helped push the message through to as many folks as possible.
We know the series was a great offering, but perhaps the timing was off. Later we will run a survey to check with our constituents to see what other programs we might offer, in addition to our combo mentoring and jazz-in-the-schools programs. For now our focus is on Camp. Registration is open, and to take advantage of our early registration special, you must register before June 6th. Hope to see you all there!
