"Since this is a new experience," says Jazzworks Artistic Director John Geggie, "I want to encourage everyone to embrace the unknown...this is a learning process and there simply won't be any wrong notes...simply excellent choices meant for another place or tune (like a jazz version of crossword puzzle or something like that)."
For this first session of three, John suggests, we will be concentrating on the basics so he has chosen some easy tunes that could work for singers and instrumentalists of all descriptions....how about two tunes as points of departure...Bag's Groove is a blues and I Got Rhythm (Gershwin).
"We can really get into these tunes (at least at the beginning), trying them at different tempi and styles and allowing as many people as possible the chance to experience them.
"These two tunes don't need to be the only things being played on the first session - just a way to get our musical jam feet wet (here is me messing up metaphors)...it might be helpful if you have a chance to check out some versions and take a look at the music ahead of time...but by all means, bring other tunes as well."
