JazzWorks is pleased to announce our second of three Mentored Sunday Jams, this Sunday February 8 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm (doors open at 1:30). The jams are held at Festival House, 450 Churchill. This is a great facility for these events, with a large audience area, stage, and sound equipment in place.
We are also very excited to have Mike Tremblay mentor this session. Mike is a native of Ottawa with more than 30 years in the music industry as a saxophonist, woodwind specialist, and educator.
Mike has been an associate performance faculty member at Carleton University since 1994. He is the founder and director of the annual Carleton University Jazz Camp.
He adjudicates for Musicfest Canada and the Kiwanis music Festival as well as sitting on arts juries for the City of Ottawa.
Mike frequently performs with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and many other ensembles around the Ottawa Area, and has also performed with such stars such Natalie Cole, Alanis Morissette, Lou Rawls, Bernadette Peters, Josh Groban, and Aretha Franklin.
Some of his Theatre credits include: The Book of Mormon (International tour), Billy Elliott ( International tour), Hairspray (Charlottetown Festival, PEI ), The Producers, The Drowsey Chapperone, and Les Mis.
In addition to Mike's expertise, we have Marylise Chauvette on piano, Alf Warnock on bass, and Owen Munn on drums providing the rhythm section for the event. Our Sunday Jams sound is set up by Richard Kowalski, with Sheila Green and JazzWorks Board member Peggy Cameron handling the door. Admission is $5.00. Artistic Director Johnn Geggie arranged for the mentors.
Based on the success of our first session with JazzWorks artistic Director John Geggie as mentor, this second Sunday Mentored Jam Session should prove to be an event not-to-be-missed. Both experienced and emerging players stand to benefit from Mike's knowledge and experience!
