For some time now Judy Humenick, JazzWorks executive director/producer and owner of Judith Humenick Productions, has traveled extensively in jazz circles, gaining expertise and friends in the broader world of jazz.
Judy met Vinx in Bremen, Germany last April (2014) at the Jazzahead! Conference and Jazz Trade Show. "I went to his showcase performances, where he performed a solo show... which was immediately followed by his funk trio, Jungle Funk... with Doug Wimbish and Will Calhoun.
"I thought he was wonderful... and the German and International audience loved him. I had a chance to speak with him later in the evening and mentioned JazzWorks (as I always do)," says Judy. "He loved the idea of a Camp focused on adult and community musicians."
Vinx teaches song writing and gives workshops at the Berklee Jazz College in Boston, and was planning the first Shire Vocal Summit to be held in Concord, Massachusetts in May. He invited Judy to be on a Panel of Artist Managers at the workshop. She accepted the invite, and drove to Concord for the 3 day event.
"It was a wonderful weekend", says Judy, "that had some similarities to what we do at our Camp...but this was just for singers and singer songwriters."
Vinx was very interested in what we do at the Jazz works Camp and said he wanted to make a contribution. He has played in Toronto, but never in Ottawa... so he offered to come to Ottawa, if we could a date, and do a concert with all the proceeds going to JazzWorks.
JazzWorks is excited to welcome Vinx for this 2-day event, starting with a concert at Zola's Restaurant in Bell's Corners, followed by an afternoon and an evening workshop. For all the details, and to register for any or all of these events <click here>.
