Creating jazz charts is often necessary to jazz vocalists, who rarely sing in the 'book' key. To look professional and build repertoire, charts are what it takes. And you have to provide charts for all instruments.
Or you may have a bent to compose music, or simply to provide charts for your band. Hiring others to do this for you can get pretty costly. This workshop, offered by the inimitable Betty Ann Bryanton, assisted by Mary Moore, will teach you how to create and transpose professional-looking charts quickly and easily in Finale; however, other options (including the free option, Musescore) will also be discussed.
If you have a laptop with Finale PrintMusic on it, by all means, bring it, and we can walk step-by-step together to use the software to do what you want to do.
The End Result
Not only will you feel good about advancing your own learning, but you should be proud you did this all on your own, and the receiving band mates getting your charts will be super-impressed with you – I’d say it’s win-win all around!

Only $5 payable at the door. A great investment! (And a great savings! We offered a similar workshop in 2013 and the cost was $25.)

Mike Tremblay Mentored Jam a Success
A happy crowd of sixteen musicians gathered at Festival House on May 1 for a Jazzworks mentored jam session. Saxophonist and jazz teacher extraordinaire Mike Tremblay shepherded the flock masterfully, offering helpful feedback to all the participants. A nice balance of instruments and singers, horn and rhythm players, ensured that everyone had a chance to strut their stuff.
The mentored jams offer an opportunity for novice and experienced jammers not only to have fun playing, but also to benefit from the advice of seasoned, professional jazz musicians. The welcoming informal atmosphere encourages jammers to leave their fears at the door, and to experiment with new approaches to playing.
This was the final Jazzworks mentored jam session of the season. Regular (unmentored) jam sessions will continue on the third Friday of every month at the Georgetown Pub. That is except for August, when we will all be at Jazzcamp! The Sunday afternoon mentored sessions will resume in the fall.
