Since its inception in 1994, JazzWorks has provided scholarships to enable promising high school jazz musicians to attend our three-day summer Jazz Camp. Recipients are chosen in collaboration with the Capital Region MusicFest in Ottawa and the MusicFest National Festival each spring. Applications for these JazzWorks MusicFest Scholarships are made directly to the Music Festivals through their annual program at crmf.on.ca and are open to senior high school students of exceptional talent from grades 10 to 12.
In recent years, as a registered charity, JazzWorks has awarded additional scholarships, including some to adult musicians who might not otherwise be able to attend. Selections are made by the JazzWorks Scholarship Committee. The number of scholarships awarded in any given year depends on available funds.
JazzWorks currently awards two annual Memorial Scholarships honoring former camp participants:
The Jerry Heath Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to honor Jerry, a trombonist and dedicated, long-time JazzWorks participant, who passed away in 2012; and the Alun Davies Memorial Scholarship honours jazz bassist, composer and arranger Alun Davies, a dedicated jazz enthusiast and musician who passed away in 2008.
In addition to seeking applicants to our scholarship programs, we offer tax-receiptable opportunities to contribute to our scholarship programs:
