YOU CAN STILL REGISTER FOR JAZZWORKS CAMP...THE NEW DEADLINE IS AUGUST 5TH!
With special offerings for “jazz vocalists, composers and avid practisers”, the Registration Deadline for JazzWorks 2014 is being extended until August 5th. The annual Composers Symposium and Jazz Camp takes place August 19th to August 24th at the CAMMAC Music Centre, on the shore of Lake MacDonald Quebec located north of Hawksbury, ON
(85, chemin CAMMAC, Harrington, QC J8G 2T2).
A revamped “Singer Intensive Stream”, co-led led by jazz vocalists Sharada Banman and Christine Duncan, “Jazz Composition and Individual Practice Mentoring Programs ” with guitarist Kim Ratcliffe and saxophonist Remi Bolduc and new “Interactive Workshops” presented by top Canadian jazz educators will highlight this year’s intensive jazz study and performance program.
“Now in our 21st year of Jazz Education activity, JazzWorks is always striving to present new and innovative approaches to learning the “jazz art form” said JazzWorks’ Executive Director/Producer, Judy Humenick. Outstanding Canadian jazz faculty will guide participants (beginner to advanced) through an intensive program of individual and group coaching, and combo performance. “With openings for vocalists, pianists, horn players and drummers.... we are inviting jazz musicians from across Ontario and Quebec to “ join us” for this amazing week of jazz and music connections!” she added.
Led by Artistic Director, John Geggie on bass, the 2014 JazzWorks Faculty also includes Canadian jazz musicians, Jim Lewis on trumpet, vocalist Julie Michels, pianists Nancy Walker and David Restivo, Jean Martin and Nick Fraser on drums, Rob Frayne for composition and arranging, guitarists Kevin Barrett and Garry Elliott, and saxophonists Frank Lozano.
JazzWorks Camp 2014 is a great opportunity to learn and develop in-depth jazz knowledge, performance and composition skills, to connect with enthusiastic jazz performers from the Ottawa Region, Ontario, Quebec and beyond. Many JazzWorks participants return each year to compose and perform their music in this idyllic setting, while others such as Juno Award Winning vocalist KellyLee Evans and Toronto based pianist Chris Donnelly are developing international artist careers. And many of the original and innovative jazz groups, now playing their original jazz music on the Ottawa area jazz scene, first met through JazzWorks’ Camps and Monthly Jam Sessions (Sept. through June).
